The Potter Baseball Tour will be in Clearfield to team up with Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Clearfield Revitalization Corp., Clearfield Baseball Association, Clearfield County Cancer Support, Inc. and the entire community to tell cancer to take a walk at the “Walk for Hope” and other community activities.
The team will bein Clearfield from Monday, July 1 through and including Wednesday, July 3.
July 1
The Potter Baseball Team will host a “Meet and Greet” at the Clearfield Riverwalk Amphitheater starting at 6:30 p.m. The public can meet all of the players along with the coaches on the Potter Baseball Team and the Clearfield Jim’s Sports Center Team. There will be a corn hole tournament, food and music.
July 2
At 10:30 a.m., the Shaw Public Library welcomes the Potter Baseball Team to join in and share their love of baseball and community service. “Loco” the Altoona Curve mascot will be available for photo and autograph opportunities. They will then have skills activities in Lower Witmer Park.
Potter Baseball Team and Clearfield Baseball Association will hold registration for the Home Run Derby at noon at Kurtz Field located at the Clearfield Little League complex. The age group divisions are ages 8-10, ages 11-12, ages 13-14, and age 15 and up. The entry fee will be $5 per person. The Home Run Derby will take place from 1-3 p.m. at Kurtz Field. Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each age group. The concession stand will be open throughout the afternoon.
Then at 5:15 p.m. at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park, the pre-game ceremony will begin for the 5:30 p.m. ‘Wood Bat Game’ with Potter Baseball Team versus the Clearfield Jim’s Sports Center. Then at 8 p.m., dinner for both teams will be held courtesy of St. Charles Cafe.
July 3
The Potter Baseball Team begins with community service in Curwensville with the events beginning at 1 p.m. with a Wood Bat Baseball game with Potter Baseball team versus Jim’s Team at Showers Field in DuBois.
The event will continue on at 6 p.m. at the Clearfield Riverwalk Amphitheater with the “Walk for Hope” to begin at 7:30 p.m. The Walk registration fee is $10 per person and will be donated in total to the Clearfield County Cancer Support, Inc for patients currently undergoing treatments to assist with living expenses. Pre-Registrations for the walk will be taken at the Shaw Public Library and Day of registrations will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Clearfield Riverwalk Amphitheater. All registration forms must be submitted with a $10 cash only payment.
There will be live music from 6-7:30 p.m. by Twin Reverb and 8-9:30 p.m. by Hell Bent.
There will also be a basket raffle, 50/50, and food and drinks available for purchase.
The team’s visit will be three days of their tour, as their baseball games in each town are complemented by community service. The tour takes them all over Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and Maryland. Potter Baseball Head Coach Jeff Potter stated, “This is a great community and we look forward to returning to Clearfield to take on this type of project.”
CRC Main Street Manager Loretta Wagner said, “Potter Baseball reiterates everything the CRC stands for, which is bringing out the best of a community. In a setting like downtown, it is fun for the team and a value to our small town.”
Shaw Public Library employee Lisa Coval said, “The theme for the Summer Reading Program is ‘A Universe of Stories’ with a focus on exploring space and our inter storyteller, which relates to the introduction of community involvement. We are very pleased that the Potter Team Tour can be part of this program by reading to the children and sharing their love of community service.”
